HubSpot GDPR: Are you making this big mistake? (video tutorial)

January 3, 2023

If you're using HubSpot, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is something you need to understand, because your lack of compliance can cost you big time. GDPR is a strict data privacy and security law that was passed by the European Union in 2018 to keep personal consumer data safe.

Under this law, companies are required to meet very specific requirements around processes for storing and handling any data submitted by website visitors or customers. Now, if you're outside the EU, you may be wondering why the GDPR applies to you!

Well, first, if you have anyone in the EU who may be visiting or submitting information on your website, this law impacts you. On top of that, the GDPR triggered states like California, Virginia, and Colorado to pass their own GDPR-like data privacy laws (which impacts you, again, if your visitors/customers reside in those states) — and more are likely to follow.

Now, with that bit of housekeeping out of the way, let's dig into what I want to talk to you about in today's video tutorial.

The top HubSpot GDPR mistake I see companies make

Stop me if you've heard this one before. You're new to HubSpot or you've been using HubSpot for some time. Then, when you switch on GDPR functionality in your HubSpot ...

... you get a warning that you can no longer communicate with any of the HubSpot contacts and leads in your database, even if they've seemingly opted in.

What the heck is going on?!

Before you panic, I'll tell you that, from experience, usually it's only one tiny little thing that is wrong here that needs to be changed. In this video tutorial, you'll learn exactly how to diagnose what your HubSpot GDPR challenge actually is, as well as the steps you need to take to make you GDPR compliant again.

You'll also learn about the different GDPR options and customizations you can implement based on your needs, as well as how your choices can impact whatever automations you have setup within your HubSpot portals.
